So another year of music has passed us by. With it, another cycle of awards was dealt to us at the Much Music Video Awards, which were held last night in downtown Toronto, Canada.
Contributing to the event were awards show co-hosts LMFAO, who’ve been on an amazing tour of events – including performing alongside pop music icon Madonna at the Superbowl earlier this year.
Opening the show with a mash-up of their most famous works, while taking off a lot of clothes, their hosting duties called for their signature apology later in the evening: ‘Sorry, for party rocking!’ Their global tour of the same name continues, and will see LMFAO return to Toronto July 4th for a performance at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre.
Katy Perry, turned out a pretty spectacular performance of her new single ‘Wide Awake’ //debuting tomorrow// of her self-metamophisus into a beautiful and naked butterfly – maybe she forgot that this was an all ages show. Either way, the visual was spectacular so we have to forgive Katy for the slip-up – and then coming back out on stage again later still ‘naked’ to receive her ‘Favourite International Artist or Group’ award.
Ms. Perry explained,
‘I had no idea I was going to win an award after performing or I would’ve put on more clothes!’ during her thank you address to her fans.
‘.. Go get my album!’
Not the typical teenage heartthrob image that his people are hard-selling him on but you have to give him a break – the guy was probably under a pressure and distress with that revolving door in Much Music’s lobby entrance threatening to smack him in the head – I guess the talent handlers were on it.
Flo Rider‘s ring made an amazing entrance considering who it was attached to, or was it the other way around? The ring looked like it was a shield it was so big – maybe he’s having security issues or fears that he might wind up in a situation similar to 50 Cent’s shootings. We don’t know for sure, but if we were that ring I’m sure we’d be happy to have worn such a well built man.
5 MMVA nominated (and show veterans) Canadian band Hedley, performed towards the end of the show, but unfortunately walked away empty handed this year.
Undeniably the biggest winner of the evening was Carly Rae Jepsen, who walked away with an amazing 3 MMVA titles. Jepsen, who has major backing from Bieber’s new label (and probably has millions of fans just for being associated with the Bieb), was deeply honoured and almost dropped one of her awards in the press room trying to juggle them all!
