Right down to the beautifully symbolic concluding shot, every creative choice was made to enhance and communicate the (ultimately) heart-wrenching story of the consummating evening following the marriage of Edward Mayhew (Portrayed by Billy Howle), a graduate student of history, and Florence Ponting (Saoirse Ronan), a violinist of a string quartet in 1962.
Directed by Dominic Cooke and adapted by author Ian McEwan from his Pulitzer Prize winning book, ‘On Chesil Beach’ (2017) is an intriguing period piece about a tragic love story told through a series of flashbacks.
